Welcome to Our Site!
The Lake Area Fun Flyers Squadron (LAFFS) was started in 1988 by three men who had been flying control line and radio controlled airplanes for many years. After several meetings and a search for a proper flying site, Gene Hatfield, Les Holmuth and Dick Turpin applied to AMA and the club became official in 1989 with the certification number of 3805. Gene and Les are still active members.
The LAFFS flying field is located in the beautiful Ozark Mountains area of Arkansas where we were granted use of a sixty acre parcel of land owned by the governing body of the city of Fairfield Bay.
Our well maintained grass landing strip is 800 feet long with safety barriers on each side to protect both pilots and spectators. A complete trainer airplane unit is kept on site to facilitate getting possible new members in the air as soon as possible. Instructor Robert Haynes is always willing and ready to hook any new member or interested person up to the buddy box system to insure a safe and successful experience.
LAFFS' number one goal is help the hobby of Radio Controlled airplane flying grow by encouraging participation. Age or gender is no obstacle and we especially reach out to the younger generation as shown on our past events and photo album pages. |

4TH ANNUAL FLY IN A SUCCESS.....
|
Our fourth annual Fly In on September 4th, 5th and 6th was a big success even though the weather was not very cooperative. It rained all morning on the 4th, but cleared up around noon and we were able to see some fantastic airplanes and flying skills. LAFFS would like to thank all the pilots and spectators that participated and hope to see you again next year. We've already held our first planning session and all of our members are excited about being able to host this event again in 2010. A special thanks to radio station KFFB and The Arkansas Democrate Gazette newspaper for the fantastic announcements and articles about the event... Please keep checking back because we will post the dates for next year's Fly In as soon as we receive the sanction from AMA...See you next year.
